Beaver Scouts are open to boys and girls aged 6 to 8. We have one beaver colony split into two sessions which meet on Thursday nights – 1st session for younger children from 6pm to 7pm and the 2nd session from 7pm to 8pm. Beavers are based around the beaver animal so they are split into 4 ‘lodges’ of 6 children.
Beavers weekly meetings are varied to ensure that all aspects of the programme are covered, and include games, craft and other activities to enable beavers to attain badges.
There are 6 Challenge badges and 20 activity badges, along with 14 staged badges, available for beavers. Those who attain all 6 Challenge badges are awarded their Chief Scouts Bronze Award, the highest available to beavers, before moving on to cubs.
We have special visitors on occasion, and aim to have one outing per month. Recent outings have included a visit to a country park, district sponsored walk, visit to Dublin Zoo with other beavers from all parts of Northern Ireland, and a day out at Crawfordsburn for archery and grass sledging.
We also give all beavers the opportunity to attend indoor and outdoor camps, we hold an indoor camp in January and outdoor one in tents in May. Both camps are for one night.
